Daddabbo, John V. - July 24, 2017


John V. Daddabbo, 85, of Newington, passed away early Monday morning (July 24,2017) at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain. Born in New Britain, son of the late Vito and the late Lucia (Spinelli) Daddabbo, he was a former resident of Bristol where he attended Bristol Public Schools, moved back to New Britain, and then Berlin for several years before recently living in Newington. He served in the US Army as a radio operator in Germany during the Korean Conflict, and worked 43 years as a truck driver for The Stanley Works until his retirement in 1993. John loved music and dancing, and was known for his smile and personality as he lit up a room when he walked in. He loved going to Bill’s Seafood in Westbrook every Monday night for the past twenty years where he danced every dance, and would be seen dancing at many local events. “Enjoy dancing with the angels, John.” An avid fan of NASCAR and Indianapolis races, he hitch-hiked to Daytona Beach to watch the last race on the sand, and he was an avid Yankees fan. He also enjoyed many years of motor trips, cruises, and playing cards with the Berlin Senior Center, The Stanley Works Seniors, and the Italian Political Independent Club. John was also a member of St. Paul’s Church, the Sons of Italy, V.F.W, Post #10732, the Elks Club, and The Stanley Works Retirees Club, and was president of AARP in Berlin. He is survived by his fiancée, Beatrice Lapointe, his daughters, Cathy Glidden of Branford, Lucy Fish and her husband Reggie of Colebrook, a son, John Daddabbo and his wife Valerie Brackett of Northborough, MA, four sisters, Mary Snetro of Newington, Lillian Theriault of Alpharetta, GA, Rose Garuti of Berlin, and Stella Lorah and her husband Edwin of Ledyard, a granddaughter, great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, his fiancée’s family, Corinne Laponte of Newington, Darlene and Mark Letizio of Kensington, Robert Lapointe of Newington, and Stacey, Corey, and Cole Richardson of Oxford, and many friends who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his sister, Ella Gonsalves, brothers-in-law, Richard Garuti, Charles Snetro, and Alphonse Theriault, and a nephew, Michael Snetro. Funeral services will be held Thursday (July 27, 2017) at 9am from Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Berlin, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street. Burial with military honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday (July 26, 2017) from 4-7pm.
